Investigative journalist Kate Rider is just beginning her London tabloid career with 'The Flag'. Her first assignment is a seemingly straightforward accidental death of an infant at a nursery school. Kate, ever the opportunist, ruthlessly uncovers a past incident involving Caroline Kershaw, the school's proprietor. Following Kate's expose and ensuing front page success, the nursery school closes and Mrs Kershaw commits suicide. Michael Kershaw, successful city architect and husband of the dead woman, blames his wife's death on 'The Flag's' intrusive reporting and in particular the part played by Kate.
