Still practising in Tannochbrae, Finlay's reputation has spread throughout the West of Scotland. But fame and reputation bring their own problems, especially when a new hotel opens nearby and Finlay is beset with the many ailments of its wealthy residents. And then with the sudden illness of Dr Cameron and the arrival of Grace Macfarlane, Finlay's old love, matters become even more complicated, culminating in a vicious and libellous attack on him by the local newspaper.
